If you cast your mind back to high-school biology, you’ll recall proteins were referred to as the body’s building blocks and are made up of amino acids. To keep things simple, protein is an important component of every cell in the body. Hair and nails are mostly made of protein. Your body uses protein to build and repair tissues. You also use protein to make enzymes, hormones, and other body chemicals. Protein is also an important constituent of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, and blood.
Unlike fat and carbohydrates, the body does not store protein, and therefore has no reservoir to draw on when it needs a new supply. Which is why I always recommend you eat protein at every meal. Here are a few of my Smoothie Recipes to ensure you get your protein as you race out the door in the morning, don’t feel like making an effort for dinner or need a refuel after exercise.
KALE, BLUEBERRIES & CREAM SMOOTHIE
Serves 2-3
- 1 cup fresh/frozen blueberries
- 1 cup coconut water or unsweetened almond, hemp, rice or coconut milk
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 2-3 Scoops KAILO NUTRITION – COLLAGEN LOOK WELL
- 1 handful kale
- 1 splash vanilla extract
- 1 pinch cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon raw, organic honey or stevia (optional)
- 1 handful ice (optional)
Combine all ingredients in a high speed blender. Blend and enjoy.
BLUEBERRY SMOOTHIE
Serves 2
- 1 handful frozen or fresh organic blueberries
- 1 banana
- 1 tablespoon extra-virgin coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon hemp seeds
- 2 Scoops KAILO NUTRITION – COLLAGEN LOOK WELL
- 1 pinch of cinnamon
- 1 cup hemp milk, almond milk, oat milk, or coconut water as your base
Put all ingredients into a high speed blender and blend until creamy.
CHOCOLATE KALE SMOOTHIE
Serves 1
- 1 cup water, coconut water or coconut, hemp, or almond milk
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 cup of kale
- 1 Scoop KAILO NUTRITION – COLLAGEN LOOK WELL
- 3 teaspoons cacao nibs
- 1 tablespoon raw cacao powder
- 5-6 ice cubes
Throw all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
